Sunday Selfies: Week #105
As we embark on year three of this blog hop, I am honored to be your host. Though I co-hosted last week with Calista Jo, Mom said I could do it again this week all by myself. I took my selfie at the veterinarian’s office on Friday.
I am sorry I didn’t look at the phone when I snapped the photo. I was feeling a bit sad. Though not a selfie, here’s a better photo. Out veterinarian always has a nice snuggly blanket on the table for me and my name on the whiteboard.
I know many of you are waiting to hear about my appointment with Dr. Neel. Mom, Dad and Dr. Neel were all optimistic when I weighed in at 6 pounds, 14 ounces. That’s not my best weight since I’ve been sick, but it is four ounces more than last month.
I had my blood drawn and my claws trimmed, and then came the wait for my results. It is with great sadness that I let you know the results were not good. My BUN is 135. That’s the highest it has been since my original CKD diagnosis this past December when it was 157. All my other values are really crappy as well, and I am now anemic.
With these results, Dr. Neel told us I need to have fluids one additional day per week. Mom also has decided to order Kidney Support Gold by Pet Wellbeing and see if that will help me. If anyone has experience with this, please let us know.
I am certain I would be doing better if I would eat any of the foods specially formulated for kitties with CKD. But I just DO NOT like it. I have tried many types, and I rather not eat if that is all I am offered. Consequently, I am eating food with too much phosphorous.
Mom and Dad, Dr. Neel and I discussed how I was doing overall. In spite of the numbers, we all came to the same conclusion: I still have a good quality of life and do not seem to be suffering in any way or in any kind of pain so we will continue treatment. Darn right we will. I’m not ready for any stupid angel wings. So purrlease keep those purrs and prayers and POTP coming. I truly need all the help I can get.
Now…are you ready to take those selfies and hop? We had a terrific turnout last Sunday as we closed out two years of Sunday Selfies with 59 pawticipants. Let’s start out year three equally well. I think Kitties Blue visited all but a few of last week’s entrants. If we didn’t get to your blog last Sunday, we promise to do so this week.
The link to join the hop is below as is the code to include the hop on your blog. If you do this, purrlease link back to The Cat on My Head and/or display our badge. That would make all the Kitties Blue do a happy dance. If you have trouble adding your link, let us know in the comments. Mom will add it for you.
Thanks for being good friends, hopping with us and praying for me.
Purrs and paw-pats, Fiona

Aw, so sorry you did not get good mews at the vet. So frustrating. We are purring our hardest for your wellbeing, Fiona.
Darling Fiona, We are sending you all kinds of our very bestest purrs and best wishes and good thoughts and stuffs! The Human had to give sub-Q fluids to Clarkie for a few years–he didn’t like the good for him foodz much either and the Human tried but finally decided he got to have the foodz he liked because she couldn’t really ‘splain to him why he couldn’t. But he did well for quite a long time and he was happy. We all gotta focus on the NOW and having the best life we can every day. Your Mom takes such great care of you–we think you don’t have many sad days! XOXOXOXOXO
Oh gosh, I am so sorry that the vet results weren’t what you hoped. Sending you lots of love and support. Hope you continue to feel OK. We have had several kitties with kidney issues and they never liked the food either. XOXO
Our selfie is going up soon!
I hope you continue to eat your food and do better.
I know how it feels to not feel well and what a strain this must be putting on your entire family.
But I am encouraged by the good news your mom shared and pray that you will get better!
Hugs and love from today’s late-to-the-list comer! 🙂
Aw, beautiful little Fiona, hearts, prayers, and hugs go out to you. <3
Fiona, you look marvelous. 🙂 🙂 Mom and I will be praying for you and for your Mom and the doctors to help you. Not to put too fine a point on it, being sick sucks. 🙁 Luvs and butt wiggles. Lexi
My heart just sank when I read those numbers. But, as many others have said, those kidney diets are not winners with most cats. I know my Troy wouldn’t even sniff the stuff. I’m happy Fiona has a good quality of life, and I do hope that continues. I know how much you love her, and I know how much she loves you.
Jean from Welcome to the Menagerie
Oh Fiona, purrlease tell your mommy to save her money and don’t buy dat gold junk. It’s nuffin’ but a waste of time and money. You need good high quality protein, not those nasty diets. Egg white podwer is a great source, and Astro’s oil, has a powder furmulation dat’s great too. A good phosophorous binder will help with your phos. nummers. We think we sent ya’ da linky fur da tasteless stuffs we used with sis Lexi. Of course we’ll continue to send our purrayers.
Luv ya’
Dezi and Raena
I’m sorry to hear that Fiona’s numbers aren’t good.
Tommie wouldn’t touch any of the CKD foods either. The vet said it was more important to keep him eating, and we mixed a phosphorus binder in his regular foods.
Purring that Fiona will be feeling better with more hydration!
We are sending lots of prayers and POTP your way, Fiona!!!
Fiona, I know that being sick is not fun, but hope you’re still having fun…. We need to watch Mr. M’s fluids very closely, too.
Fiona, sweetheart, I was wondering how you were doing!! I don’t blame you for being really selective with your food! I’m the same! Life’s too short to eat cardboard, right! Glad you are happy and loved and warm with your family. Long may it last! ❤️❤️❤️
PeeEss will be back later with a selfie, promise!! Xx
We are sorry your numbers were not good Fiona.
We are sending lots of purrs that things will change for you,
and you will feel a bit better.
Purrs Georgia and Julie,
Treasure and JJ
Precious Fiona, I’m sure your results gave Mommie and Daddie leaky eyes. It did here too. You have all the purrs and prayers we can send from me, TKS and Mom L and Dad P. Stay strong deals friend
Fiona, I’m so sorry that your numbers aren’t good. All paws, fingers and toes crossed over here that you’re continued treatment will help. Sending hugs and purrs!
I’m so sorry you don’t have better news, sweet girl. This is so unfair. You’re too young. Keep fighting, and we promise we’ll keep purring and praying.
We’re sorry to hear those poor test results, and as you know, we know exactly how you all are feeling. We are sending much POTP for you, Fiona, you keep fighting on and enjoying every day to the fullest!
Dear Fiona we are so sorry about the test results. We all understand how difficult this is for you, and your Mom and Dad. Like someone mentioned before have you tried the phos binders? Also I’m sure you know that there is a good Yahoo group for CKD as well as on FB if you do FB. WE joined in today for the hop but it’s really our Gotcha day for Boo, Ping & Jinx who or course arrived at our doorstep together.
So sorry to hear the report from the vet is not good. We were glad to hear that you are not in pain or suffering. We will keep our paws crossed and purr for you.
hugs, Bugsy and Knuckles
Fiona, were are sad for you but have not given up hope! We will pray extra hard for you. We are glad you have a nice vet – you are surrounded by love!!
Fiona we are sad that your news isn’t better. Hope the new meds and increased fluids will help. POTP and prayers continue from here!

Dear Fiona, I’m sorry your test results stink but I’m very happy that you’re not ready to pack it in sweetie. We all send you our very best purrs and prayers.
Fiona we are sending mew many, many, many healing purrs and hope mew improve daily!
Gentle hugs,
Basil & Co xox
Oh Fiona, we’re sorry you didn’t get a better report from the vet. The mom remembers how her CKD kitty didn’t want to eat the kidney diet food so she fed him regular wet food. She has a list of foods that list the phosphorus content, she’s gonna send that to your mom. Maybe there’s a regular food with low phos that you will like. Has your vet suggested a phos binder for you? We’re sending you a ton of purrs.
Oh Fiona, we are sad that your test results were not better – but we will keep purraying and sending POTP, so you keep fighting ! Hopefully you will like some of the food your Mama is going to try and you will get stronger !
Sweet Fiona, we were sure hoping for a better report. Mom says it’s like a roller coaster treating kidney disease. We hope the Kidney Support Gold will help. It sounds like Chirpy Cats have something else you might want to try too. Allie is sending super duper extra purrs and prayers to her sister-in-law.
The Florida Furkids with tons and tons of love and kisses to Mau from his WIFE Allie!
Oh, so sorry! Sending lots of prayers and purrs your way.
Fiona, we are sad that the test results were not good. We has our paws crossed you will get a better report next time. There is always hope. Socks had very BAD test results at one time, in fact the specialty vet didn’t think he would last the week. She told our vet who called to check on him and was pleasantly surprised when Mommy said he was doing OK. She asked Mommy to bring him in and was even happier when his blood work came back OK. Of course then they had to come up with a plan to treat the hyperthyroidism but we treat it with food and at his last visit his bloodwork was purrfect.
We do wish you would eat the food you need, it took forever for Mommy to get Socks to eat the y/d food. At first she mixed it with a little chicken broth.
Healing purrs and the power of the paw. We want you with your family for a long time to come. Love all of us here at ATCAD
Fiona, you have kitty prayers from the human and 5 felines at the Paws for Reflection household. We are so glad your humans are taking good care of you, and I can’t say as I blame you about the food. My Victory was on that special food, and she wasn’t all that fond of it, either. She preferred tuna.
That’s one of the most heartbreaking parts of being a pet parent. We try so hard – if only we had the ability to explain to Fiona why she needed to eat the food that she doesn’t like.
Prayers that she will remain strong – xoxox
Deb and the Zee/Zoey gang
Fiona we always jump ahead when reading about you to see the most impawtent pawt, how you are feeling. Purrs and prayers that you have wonderful days of summer with your family and friends.
Timmy, Dad and Family
I am sorry you are not doing so well, Fiona. I hope that kidney support helps. The fight is never over until it’s over. By the way, I like that the vet’s office puts your name on the board.
Purrs and pats and hugs to you Fiona
Please do try to eat your special food, Fiona, but if you can’t, enjoy life and all the good things you have. purrs ERin
I am so sorry to hear about your kidney results, dear Fiona, but we continue Healing Pawkisses and Purrayers and hope that you feel good…. furrever <3 <3 <3
We are purring our best purrs for you Fiona and hope your vet pulls himself together and gets you feeling better.
We’re sorry you’re struggling, Fi. We wish we could help in some way. We’re sending you and Mom and Dad all our love and well wishes.
Dear Fiona, it breaks my heart that your numbers have turned out to be so bad BUT I also know you are one “Fiesty Fiona” and you will work hard to get things turned around. One extra hydration treatment a week – you can do that! Try out Kidney Support Gold – oh yes you can do that too. You can do anything – we all believe in you dear girl so it’s ONWARD. Sending you POTP and purrs…….
Love, Sammy
So sorry to hear that, Fiona.
We will keep sending you healing vibes and purrs xx
Athena and Marie
Dear Fiona, we’re sorry you had such bad results. We like your cattitude, and we keep purring for you. Purrs, and hugs to your mom
I am sorry you didn’t get a good vet report Fiona, and I am purring my best purrs for you. I hope that your mum can find a suitable food that you like. I am the same as you with my food. If it is something I don’t like, nothing will make me eat it and I would rather go hungry.
Fiona, I’m so sorry you had a bad report from the vet. My human remembers trying the Kidney Support Gold with Sparkle at one point, but she threw so many meds at her issues, both traditional and holistic, that she can’t remember if any of them helped at all. I really hope it does some good for you.
Prayers and purrs for you Fiona. Our 15 year old senior housemate, Earl Grey, was also diagnosed with CKD in May and it felt like the big lady cat’s world just fell apart. But there is light at the end of the tunnel. She also got the Kidney Gold support, but since using a product called Astro’s Oil, his appetite has increased and his coat and skin has improved, with a renewed zest for life. No more appetite stimulants. He eats regular wet food because he also hates the bland yucky kidney diet. He is also on fluids once a week and he is on Semintra. Overall the vet is very pleased with his progress as it seems stable.
We would be pleased to share on any other tips about this with you. We are also still learning about this.
Fiona, I am so sorry that you and your kidneys are going through this. Of course we were all so hoping that you would have better news for us, but I think maybe you’ve got some aces up your furry little sleeves. It’s obvious that you are one tough cookie, Fiona, and that your mom and dad and vet care so much about you and will do anything for you. I’m glad that you are otherwise enjoying life, sweet girl, and we will never stop purring and praying for you!
Fiona, I am sorry you had such bad numbers. With all of us praying for you, we will make you feel better. I am going to call the vet Monday to see if Spooky’s anemia medicine is still there and if it is, I will send it to you if you want to give it a try. XO
Dearest, mes so furry sorry that the news from the vet was not better. Mes will continues to purrays for yous as mes knows how powerful the POP (Power of the Paw) can be. And mes will purrays that yous continues to feels good too!
Loves yous lots grrl furrend and plenty of kisses
Nellie
Darn it, Fiona. We hope you can find some food you like that will help with the kidneys. We want you to have the best quality of life available.
Dear Mom Blue and Fiona! A long time ago ! Mom had a cat needing a Cystitis Diet! Now the Dry was terrible! probably it tasted like us people eating dry bland white rice without spices! So Mom used to mix the Dry Cystitis Diet with some Wet Cystitis Diet and That worked! So Moms suggestion Fiona is to try mixing wet and dry! Or even mixing the very best brand of CKD Kidney diet dry with perhaps another different brand of CKD Kidneyc Wet! This really worked wonders for Ivory all those years ago in the late 1999 to mid 2006. Just a suggestion..Weruva Dry Cystititis diet was great but tasted like sawdust!! So Mom mixed Weruva wet and wow It was gobbled up!
Lovely Fiona, you are always in our purrayers. We will rev our motors up for you.
Hang in there!
XOXO
Well, we think you certainly have the right CATtitude, Miss Fiona! Just remember it’s the life in your days, not the days in your life…sending big purrs and smoochies from alla us and Mommy. (she’s the smoocher!)
Aw, darn, Fiona. We are sorry the report from the vet was not what we had all hoped for. We love you very much, and will purr and pray and wish and hope for miracles.
