Lily Olivia Requests a Little Reiki
I’ve never shared Lily Olivia’s full “story” before; though, I think I have made mention of her “accident” in passing. What occurred at the house a few days ago gave me the opening I needed to tell you about Lily Olivia, the survivor.
Lily Olivia is not known for her warm and friendly personality. She has mellowed a bit as she has aged and doesn’t hiss and swipe at everyone who approaches her as she once did. But she surprised the heck out of her dad and me last week. I was sitting on our double rocker with our Barn Cat Buddies friend and original foster mom for Astrid and Calista Jo, Diane. Lily jumped up right between us. Tom and I were left with our mouths agape.
Lily went right up to Diane, checked her out and gave her some nose bumps. She then turned around and pushed her butt right up to Diane’s leg. Diane, a Master in the practice of Reiki, told us that animals needing healing will normally present that part of their body to her. She asked about Lily’s history, which we hadn’t shared previously.
Any 16-year-old kitty is bound to have some aches and pains, but Lily has more than the usual. The following photo is from 2001. Lily Olivia was two years old. The photo was taken after Lily spent several days in emergency vet care for a broken and dislocated right rear leg and three lung punctures.
Lily’s chance of surviving was quite slim. But she’s a fighter. When she pulled through, I never expected her to have such a long and basically healthy life. We feel blessed for her to be with us; though, she can be a bit of a pain in the rear. She is a calico after all.
We have never known exactly what happened to Lily but suspect she was hit by a car in our back alley. After calling her for several hours with no response, I found her huddled against the back door. She would have had to climb an entire flight of stairs to get there. Definitely, a fighter.
Once I shared Lily’s background with Diane, she was not surprised that Lily came to her. She only spent a few minutes with Lily Olivia, but Lily was quite relaxed afterwards.
This most likely will not be Lily’s last Reiki treatment. I do notice that it is a bit more effort for her to jump the four feet to get to her bowl on the kitchen counter or the faucet in the bathroom—her favorite place for a drink when I get up in the middle of the night.

Poor baby. It is always wonderful to know that our pets have the fighting spirit, but hope they never need it.
Poor Lily Olivia, we had no idea she had to go through such rough times. Thank you for sharing her story with us. Purrs

Yes, animals love Reiki. Athena often comes up to me and requests it.

That must have been heart stopping to find her in that condition by your back door! Thankfully Lily was young enough to seemingly make a full recovery! Now it all makes sense…Leo was a fighter and went through some challenges as well …kindred spirits. We hope you are all well, thriving and enjoying the beauty of Autumn. Love to all of you and to your Mama too 🙂

We’re so glad Lily is such a fighter and that she has such good parents like you. Mommy does Reiki and knows how much it can help. Thank you for telling us Lily’s story.
O M C We had no idea that Lily Olivia had such a traumatic occurrence. It is truly amazing what strength cats have despite their pain.
We are happy she has overcome her injuries and is even mellowing as she ages.
Purrs…Nose kisses to Ms Lisbeth
Oh, My:((
That would have been horrid to find your loved kitty like that.
We are happy she pulled through. We hope the Reiki helps.
I did not know that story. Poor Lily Olivia, I am glad she survived and has had such a great life. I love the calico personality, my Lucy used to hiss and swipe at all the other kitties too.
Thanks for sharing Lily’s story with us. I love it that she went right to Diane for a Reiki treatment. It’s funny, how they know, isn’t it? I used to practice Reiki and Quantum Touch on animals and found that they either loved it or hated it. Especially cats. Lovely cat, lovely story. 🙂
We didn’t know about Lily Olivia’s trauma history. She sure is a survivor. And we hope the Reiki helps her…we know that it really can. Lots of purrs for her from us.

Cats must be so frustrated that they must SHOW us exactly what they need, we don’t just KNOW, it’s such a good think you’d invited a reiki practitioner to your house. We are truly glad Lily Olivia survived whatever happened!

Poor Lily Olivia – what a horrible accident…..so happy she survived and is going strong. I am sure Reiki is helpful…..I am not an expert but know the basics and I must say Sam enjoys a good gentle massage more than I ever thought he would. More and more he’ll hop up on my lap for a session…..it’s “our” time. Sending hugs to your SURVIVOR – she’s quite a lady!
Hugs, Pam (and Sam)
Poor Lily!! It’s amazing she was able to find her way home after such trauma. It’s no wonder she has been grumpy for so long. I’m sure her bones literally ached some days. Also glad she has mellowed and relaxed. She is a beautiful kitty. Love Toby
Remarkable story! Animals can surprise the socks off ya!
Good for Lily. My daughter’s cat, Carmen, was accidentally run over some years ago, but she is amazing. She is still going strong at 19 years of age. A few weeks back she went missing, and we all feared the worst, but she’s back. A tortoiseshell – she’s something else!
I had no idea Lily Olivia had such awful trauma in her past. I may not know Reiki, but I am sending some purrs her way, as I’m sure she could use them.
